Many areas want to start a Watch Program but don't know how to organize it. They benefit both the community they serve as well as law enforcement by deterring crime and freeing officers up to not need to respond to complaints as often. Part of a Watch Program's first steps is contacting their local PD to obtain the assistance of an officer to come educate the watch participants on how to legally, safely and effectively operate their program. Since there is a shortage of officers, I believe the Sheriff should employ a civilian whose responsibilities would include the initial organization of area watch programs and educating participants in lieu of taking an officer off the street to do so. I have prepared a full outline of the position's responsibilities, in addition to how the position's cost can be managed with minimal impact on the department's budget. Deputies aren't always able to respond quickly, but the presence of a watch patrol can deter crime and the need to call.

This site is clunky and difficult to navigate, and really doesn't have a place (at least that I can see) to report Animal Control infringements. I've been having problems with the neighborhood dogs at Vista Grande Estates in Rio Communities for several years, and though I have reported these problems several times over the past several years. I've given up on calling, because the only time I actually got a response was when the neighbors toy poodle dug under my fence, bit me, and was shot with my air rifle. Since I have been repeatedly harassed by a black and white mutt, and a Doberman (or similar cross bred large dog) harassing me when I walk my dog. Tonight the dog was in my driveway and growling and threatening me and my wife as she was attempting to go to work. The owner claims it is a puppy, but I know that this is an adult dog that has lived in the neighborhood for years, and has attempted to attack my dog while I walk her with a leash. I've had to beat it off with a stick.

I would like to recommend a sign as you drive on NM314 saying "Welcome to Los Chavez". This would really enhance the area with beautification. I would probably recommend a steel sign with the letters...

I live in the Vista Grande Estates subdivision. There has been consistent activity here concerning dogs that are unlicensed and that are running around the neighborhood without leashes. My neighbors toy poodles, who have attacked me in the past, are at least controlled, but there are other dogs that roam the neighborhood unchecked and unleashed, that are a nuisance to myself and others. These dogs, one a black and white mutt and one that appears to be a Doberman or other large crossbreed, are consistently loose in the neighborhood and have had to be beaten back by me when walking my dog. Tonight this large dog threatened me and my wife as she was attempting to go to work. The owner said "Give him a minute, he's just a puppy," but he has been here for over three years and attempted to attack me previously. I've asked to have this dealt with a few times over the past years, but nothing has happened yet. The next time this dog threatens me, I will defend myself from it. Or you can.

Hello,
I believe it would be extremely beneficial if these stores were brought to Valencia County. I notice that their are constantly new fast food restaurants brought here and I find it is repetitive and unhealthy.
It would be really nice to have more grocery stores besides Walmart, Smith's and Albertsons. I believe bringing in a Sprouts, Whole Foods or co-op would not only benefit the community in a healthy way but it would also bring in more careers.
I understand that there are people who like McDonalds, Weinerschnitzel and Burger King but there are also people in this community who enjoy eating healthy.

Los Lunas is getting a little over 3 million dollars of stimulus. We are sorely in need of drug and rehab and mental health services. I suggest we partner with surrounding municipalities who also got money and either buy and retrofit the facility on the west frontage road north of Tillery or buy some cheap land south of Rio Communities and create a world-class center. Or use the Valencia County dollars allotted and build a large boys and girls club with classrooms as well as an indoor/outdoor pool.
