Special General Obligation Bond Election

SPECIAL GENERAL OBLIGATION BOND ELECTION

On July 27th, 2018, the Valencia County Clerk’s Office mailed out the Special General Obligation Bond Election that has three (3) bond questions for the voters in Valencia County to consider. This is not an increase in property taxes due to current Bonds that will be retired.

Ballots need to be returned by August 21st, 2018.

GENERAL OBLIGATION BOND QUESTION 1 / PREGUNTA 1 DE BONOS DE OBLIGACION GENERAL

Shall Valencia County issue up to $5,100,000 of general obligation bonds, to be repaid from property taxes, for the purpose of constructing and repairing public roads and purchasing capital equipment for such projects?

¿Debera el Condado de Valencia emitir hasta $5,100,000 en bonos de obligacion general, que se reembolsaran con los impuestos a la propiedad, con el fin de construir y reparar los caminos publicos y comprar el equipo de capital para tales proyectos?

Valencia County is continuing to prioritize in the maintaining of County Dedicated roads. The engineering and paving of roads so that they have a lifespan of 20 years is costly. If this bond is passed it will help in the continued success of being able to pave and maintain roads within Valencia County.

GENERAL OBLIGATION BOND QUESTION 2 / PREGUNTA 2 DE BONDS DE OBLIGACION GENERAL
Shall Valencia County issue up to $1,050,000 in general obligation bonds, to be repaid from property taxes, for the purpose of erecting, remodeling and making additions to necessary public buildings?

¿Debera el Condado de Valencia emitir hasta $1,050,000 en bonos de obligacion general, que se reembolsaran con los impuestos a la propiedad, con el fin de erigir, remodelar y hacer ampliaciones a los edificios publicos necesarios?

This money would be used for renovations of the County Administration Building in Los Lunas for the removal of asbestos and mold within the basement and second floors. These two areas are not being used because of the health concerns to the public and employees. This money along with state capital outlay that Valencia County received in the last Legislative Session will allow for these renovations so that additional office space can be created.

This money would also allow a storage building to be constructed that is climate controlled for the use of the Sheriff’s Office, Clerk’s Office and the Detention Center. Storage of certain items need to have climate control due to state and federal guidelines. Valencia County would also be replacing the fire alarm system at the Judicial Complex, placing a backup generator for the administrative and Women’s Detention facility, and repaving of parking lots at the administrative complex.

GENERAL OBLIGATION BOND QUESTION 3 / PREGUNTA 3 DE BONDS DE OBLIGACION GENERAL

Shall Valencia County issue up to $850,000 of general obligation bonds, to be repaid from property taxes, for the purpose of repairing a closed County landfill located on Belen's west side to meet State environmental requirements?

The county is still obligated to maintain the closed landfill south of Belen to meet State Environmental Department requirements. The county has finished plans on the engineering and completion of the closed landfill. This money if approved would allow the county to continue to complete the maintenance of repairing and completing this project.
